Please take a few minutes to review this page. It will allow you to understand the process before we get started.
By purchasing, you acknowledge that you are buying a handcrafted, customized keepsake box from The1842. Each box is individually made, and natural variations in wood, grain, color, and craftsmanship are part of what makes every piece unique. These variations should be expected and are not considered defects.
Because your keepsake box is a custom creation, all sales are final — there are no refunds and no returns. You also acknowledge and understand that your order will be placed into a production queue. There may be a period of time before work begins on your box, followed by additional time for completion and customization. Delivery time will therefore vary depending on the number of orders ahead of yours.

My “real” full-time job is with the Sheriff’s Office as a Criminal Investigator. (Former K9 Handler) This job has to come first. I cannot always work in the shop every day. Woodworking is what I do because I love to do it but the Sheriff’s Office is my primary responsibility.
My ultimate goal is to hand you something you can’t stop looking at — a keepsake box you’ll proudly show to everyone who visits your home or office, and one that can be passed down for generations.
To make sure of that, I’ve made a decision that may cost me some customers but lets me sleep at night: I cannot promise completion dates.
People often ask, “How long before my box is ready?” The honest answer is this: your box will not leave my shop until it meets my standards. I can tell you where you are on the list and which number I’m currently working on, but even that is just a snapshot in time. Once I begin your box, it may still take weeks or months to complete, depending on the details and my workflow.
For transparency, there’s a section on my homepage (www.The1842.com) just below the first video where I post updates on which group of boxes I’m currently working on. I keep this as up-to-date as possible so you can track my progress.
I’ve tried in the past to promise specific completion dates, and it always led to problems. Rushing against deadlines forced me to ship boxes I wasn’t fully satisfied with — and nothing feels worse than sending out something I know could have been better.
My process isn’t for everyone. My style of craftsmanship isn’t something you’ll find on a store shelf, and the time it takes me varies month to month and year to year. But my commitment remains the same: to serve you with my very best work.
I trust you’ll understand and appreciate the care that goes into every piece I make.

When you are ready to purchase your custom keepsake box, please send me an email at barry@the1842.com with the subject line: “I’m Ready.” I will reply with a secure payment link.
Once full payment is received, your order will be added to my production list. I will then send you a confirmation email along with a request for the information I need to get started — usually your cadet’s full name, company, and year of graduation. You’re also welcome to include any additional details to help make the box an heirloom that can be passed down for generations.
Please note: Each box is handcrafted, and I complete them in the order they are received. This means there may be a waiting period before I begin working on your box, followed by additional time for design and production.
I primarily ship using USPS, but local pickup is always preferred.
The total cost of a custom keepsake box is $950 (this includes $50 for shipping). Payment can be made by credit card via PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, or by mailing a check.

From Thanksgiving until the first of the year, I work on things for my family. I will do very little in the shop. You may not see much progress on my list at that point. I take a week off in the summer with family and anytime I have a request to make a piece for a fallen soldier, or Law Enforcement I take the time to make it to fit the burial/ceremony schedule.
